During the month of Ramadan, national carmaker PROTON demonstrated its commitment to education and community welfare with two impactful initiatives. The company donated a substantial collection of books to SMK Proton City in Tanjong Malim and allocated a RM10,000 Zakat fund to upgrade the surau facilities at school premises.
The donation, comprising a diverse selection of educational materials ranging from reference books to literature, aligns with PROTON's vision of empowering future generations through knowledge and learning. The materials were sourced via an inter-company book donation campaign with over 500 books were donated by PROTON staff. Through this campaign, the company aims to inspire students to excel academically and pursue their aspirations.
“At PROTON, we are strong supporters of the transformative power of education. By providing students with access to a wider range of books, we hope to inspire students and enable their educational journey towards self-discovery and the pursuit of their future vocations” said Roslan Abdullah, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of PROTON.
The contribution from PROTON underscores the importance of corporate partnerships in fostering educational development and fostering a culture of learning within communities. By collaborating closely with SMK Proton City, the company seeks to support educators in their mission to educate future generations.
Zalina Ahmad, Principle of SMK Proton City, expressed her gratitude for PROTON's support, recognizing the significant impact it will have on their educational programs.
“SMK Proton City and PROTON have a close relationship and we have about 200 students from families of PROTON workers. Over the years, PROTON, its unions, and staff have been supportive of the school and today, we are incredibly grateful for the generous donation of books. These resources will enrich our students' learning experience and contribute to their academic growth.”
RM10,000 Zakat Fund allocated to upgrade surau facilities
In tandem with the book donation, PROTON also handed over a RM10,000 Zakat fund to Surau SMK Proton City. The contribution will assist enhancement activities of the surau, including the installation of a rooftop and mosaic floor for the women’s prayer section, and fostering a conducive environment to perform prayers and activities.
“PROTON will continue to dedicate itself to its corporate social responsibility activities and its mission to drive positive change in the communities where we operate. By investing in education and community welfare, we aspire to empower individuals, uplift communities, and build a brighter future for generations to come,” added Roslan Abdullah.
